The field of data science is rapidly evolving. Driven by cognitive and technological advancements, modern and innovative tools and methods have emerged to preserve, analyze, and process data, and have become a crucial component of the knowledge economy and a significant contributor to decision-making processes. In line with the goals of Vision 2030 and the drive to establish a data-driven economy, Royal Decree No. (59766) was issued on 11/20/1439 AH, mandating the establishment of the National Data Management Office. The Office is linked to the Board of Directors of the National Information Center and requires the establishment of data management offices in all government agencies. Consequently, the Saudi Electricity Regulatory Authority (SERA) issued Administrative Decision No. (1020) on 04/12/1442 AH to establish a Data Management Office. This will achieve several strategic objectives within SERA, including:

• Developing a comprehensive strategy for data management and governance at SERA.

• Formulating policies for data management, governance, and personal data protection at SERA.

• Assisting SERA’s sectors and departments to implement policies and controls for data management, governance, and personal data protection.

• Enhancing the level of personal data protection and privacy within SERA.

• Managing the processes of data availability and sharing with external stakeholders, including government entities, private organizations, and individuals.

• Improving data management practices within SERA in accordance with international best practices for data management and governance.

• Raising awareness and developing capabilities and skills of SERA employees in the field of data and personal data protection.

• Contributing to the achievement of national goals to enhance and develop data as national assets by participating in data projects received by SERA from other regulatory bodies in the Kingdom.

• Monitoring adherence to, and compliance with, data management, governance, and personal data protection policies within SERA.
